In 2014, taking a virtual stroll through a city at night was not something the web could offer. Night Walk in Marseille changed that. In collaboration with 72andSunny Amsterdam and Google Creative Lab, MediaMonks built the first ever nocturnal Google Street View experience: over two hundred high-definition photospheres of the Cours Julien neighbourhood, woven together with adaptive soundtracks, YouTube content, and Google Knowledge Panels into a single, seamless journey through the city after dark.
The digital world noticed. The project was covered by The Verge, Engadget, BuzzFeed, Mashable, The Next Web and many others, and was praised as one of the most compelling uses of Google Maps technology seen at the time. More than just a technical achievement, it showed what storytelling on the web could look like when documentary craft and digital innovation worked together.
